A preliminary 3.1 magnitude earthquake struck near Berkeley Thursday morning, according to the United States Geological Survey.
The quake, which hit at 9:23 a.m., was centered 1.3 miles east of Berkeley, 2.8 miles east-southeast of Albany, and 3.6 miles northeast of Emeryville, the USGS said.
