MADISON (WKOW) — Former Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Ben Wikler announced Thursday he will not run for governor in 2026. Instead, he plans to support the Democratic candidate who secures the nomination.
Wikler served as Democrats' state party chair from 2019-2024, and he unsuccessfully ran to lead the Democratic National Committee earlier this year.
When he announced his decision to not run for Wisconsin's highest political office, Wikler emphasized the significance of the gubernatorial race. In a post on X, he said "Wisconsin's 2026 Governor's Race is wildly important. I won't be running. But I'll do my utmost to make sure a great Democrat wins, and I hope you will, too."
He also highlighted the importance of other races on the ballot, describing 2026 as a "once-in-a-generation
