Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) revealed he has privately told Democratic leaders that he is willing to hold a floor vote based on one of their central demands in exchange for ending the government shutdown .

The shutdown entered its 16th day on Thursday, with no end in sight, after the Senate has repeatedly failed to advance a House-passed GOP spending bill.

In a short-term spending proposal, Republicans are looking to advance a stopgap measure that would fund the government at around current spending levels until Nov. 21. Democrats, meanwhile, hope to extend Obamacare subsidies before they are set to expire at the end of the year, as well as undo cuts to Medicaid in President Donald Trump’s “big, beautiful bill” that passed this summer.
