The Registrar General of the Government of India announced on Thursday the release of the pre-test of the first phase of Census 2027. This test will focus on house listings and housing census. It will run from November 10 to November 30 in all states and union territories across the country.

The pre-test aims to evaluate data collection methods, logistics, training, and digital tools. It is being conducted to assess field challenges ahead of the 2027 Census. The test will test data collection and self-enumeration using a mobile app.

The census gazette notification was issued in June.
