Love winter? There have been multiple times the snowy season has begun in October in Massachusetts.
One of the earliest snowfalls in Massachusetts was on Oct. 1, 1946, in Plainfield, when an inch of snow fell. Although the National Weather Service has Sep. 25, 1942, as the official earliest snowfall in Massachusetts.
And more recently, Massachusetts residents saw snow in October 2020 when Boston set a new snowfall record for the month. However, the city didn’t receive the most snow in Massachusetts from that storm.
Worcester, Amherst and Grafton totaled 6.5 inches in October 2020, according to the National Weather Service.
