South London firefighters are battling a blaze in Forest Hill tonight after a ground floor shop burst into flames with flats above it.

The London Fire Brigade say 15 engines and 100 firefighters are on the scene in Perry Vale, while locals have been advised to keep windows and doors open due to smoke travel.

Road users should expect significant disruption while a 25-metre cordon remains in place around the blaze.

LFB do not know what started the fire which prompted 49 calls just before 6:30pm on Thursday (October 16).

Firefighters are currently spraying the flames from a 32-metre turntable ladder.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
