BATON ROUGE, La. (KALB) - Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry has officially called the State Legislature to an extraordinary session to create a new Congressional map ahead of the 2026 Election cycle. The session will be held at the State Capitol from October 23-November 13, starting at 2 p.m. on Oct. 23.
This comes amid oral arguments held on Oct. 15 at the U.S. Supreme Court, in regard to Louisiana’s Congressional Maps under the ‘Louisiana V Callais’ case. Justices have asked the question to both parties: “whether the state’s intentional creation of a second majority-minority congressional district violates the 14th or 15th Amendments to the U.S. Constitution.” It’s a case that could have major implications for the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
