FOWLER, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - The mother who was killed by her son in a murder-suicide in Fowler on Wednesday evening has been named by officials.

The mother has been identified as 78-year-old Cheryl Hanonian; the son has been identified as 60-year-old James McFarland.

On Wednesday evening at around 6:30 p.m., officers responded to Citrus and South avenues after receiving a report of an assault with a deadly weapon.

The reporting party told officers that she spoke with a family member, now identified as James McFarland, who said he shot his mom and was going to shoot her dogs and himself.
