Even close up, the jacket is unassuming. But hidden in pockets and along the sleeves are 3D-printed plates that aim to protect employees who support individuals with disabilities.
A Dakota State University research team partnered with LifeScape to create garments for direct care staff who work with children diagnosed with developmental disabilities, the team announced at an Oct. 15 press conference. The multi-layered garments, which have 3D-printed inserts that act as a type of armor, will help protect staff members from injuries caused by scratching or biting. The project was funded with help of a $50,000 investment by LifeScape. ×
