Baltimore health officials confirmed Wednesday that a raccoon discovered inside a city school has tested positive for rabies.
According to a news release, the animal was first spotted Tuesday afternoon during dismissal at Fallstaff Elementary-Middle School.
Officials say the raccoon eventually made its way into the building, where quick-thinking teachers managed to trap it beneath lockers until animal control officers arrived.
News of the incident sparked concern among parents, many of whom questioned how the animal gained access to the school.
“How do we keep raccoons out of the school? How did it get in in the first place?” asked parent Drew Redman.
“That’s terrible. I hope something is done immediately,” said another parent, Denise.
