COLUMBUS, Ohio—U.S. Rep. Dave Taylor says he’s asked U.S. Capitol Police to investigate why an American flag with a swastika was pinned up in his Washington, D.C. office.

An image posted online Wednesday showed the U.S. flag, with some horizontal stripes twisted into the shape of the Nazi hate symbol, on a cubicle wall behind a Taylor staffer during a virtual meeting.

Taylor, a Clermont County Republican, claimed in a statement that the flag was there because of “office vandalism,” and that he and Capitol Police have launched an investigation.

Taylor’s office declined to comment on any other details, including how or why someone planted the flag, what role (if any) the staffer seen in the image – Angelo Elia – had, and whether Elia has faced disciplinary action.
