A Courtenay mother and brother are reacting with anger after their adopted family member suffered serious stab wounds in an attack Sept. 24.

“I feel like we were let down by the system,” said Keenan Andrew whose younger 16 year-old adopted brother was the victim.

His brother who has a different last name and can’t be identified due to his age, was stabbed and slashed in the abdomen and side of his chest.

“The stabbing narrowly missed his lung so he’s very lucky,” said Andrew.

His family said they had a feeling something bad was going to happen.

“It’s sad to say that we all knew and had that fear that eventually something was going to happen and it did,” said the victim’s adoptive mother Josephine Andrew.

The family adopted the boy when he was three weeks old.
