MADISON (WKOW) -- The Dane County Humane Society is reaching out to the community to raise $7,850 for a puppy who needs heart surgery.
Ricky was just 11 weeks old when he was transferred to DCHS from an overcrowded shelter. Initially treated for minor issues, a serious heart murmur was discovered during a veterinary exam. Further tests revealed a condition called pulmonic stenosis, which makes it harder for his heart to move blood to his lungs. Without surgery, the condition could lead to heart failure.
"Ricky is a sweet, playful and affectionate pup. We need our community's help to raise nearly $8,000 to cover his heart surgery," said Lisa Bernard, DCHS development and communications supervisor.
Ricky is scheduled for surgery Oct. 22 at the University of Illinois College of Veterinary
