MADISON, Wis. — The Dane County Humane Society is asking for public assistance in raising $7,850 to help a sick puppy with a serious heart defect.

Ricky was born with a serious heart defect and was only 11-weeks-old when he arrived at the DCHS shelter in early August. Coming from an overcrowded shelter, a DCHS veterinary team treated him for kennel cough and a skin condition, which were manageable. However, the veterinary team discovered a prominent heart murmur. To confirm the diagnosis, they conducted x-rays and a cardiac enzyme test, which revealed that Ricky's heart was under significant strain.

A few days later, Ricky was transported to UW Veterinary Care, where it was confirmed that he was born with pulmonic stenosis, a severe heart defect. DCHS stated that this condition causes a
