SEATAC, Wash. — Federal regulators have cleared a major milestone for Seattle-Tacoma International Airport’s plan to accommodate up to 56 million passengers a year by 2032, an expansion that includes a second terminal among 31 projects.

This week, the Federal Aviation Administration approved a Final Environmental Assessment and a Finding of No Significant Impact/Record of Decision for the proposed Sustainable Airport Master Plan Near-Term Projects.

SEA is one of the most space-constrained major airports in the nation, hemmed in by surrounding cities and highways. Passenger traffic grew from 31 million in 2010 to 53 million in 2019, and the Port of Seattle expects that growth to continue through the next decade.
