BOSTON —
Thousands of people are expected to descend on the Boston Common on Saturday for the "No Kings" rally.
There are more than 100 rallies planned across Massachusetts, with the largest in the state expected to be held on the Common.
"We see Donald Trump and his administration are trying to get rid of our democracy and put an authoritarian regime in," said Rebecca Winter, an organizer for the event.
Winter says she is non-partisan.
Mayor Michelle Wu is the keynote speaker.
"We are standing in solidarity using our First Amendment rights and being non-violent to say we are here to defend our democracy and to defend our constitution," she said.
House Speaker Mike Johnson said he hopes Democrats will vote to reopen the government after the demonstrations.
Johnson, however, was cri
