This time of month usually brings an updated labor market report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), but no new data will be released due to the ongoing federal government shutdown.
Instead of the usual report, the Kansas Department of Labor issued a statement explaining the lapse in reporting.
“Official reports on the Kansas labor market, including September monthly jobs data that had been scheduled for release on Oct. 17, 2025, are suspended by the federal government shutdown,” the department said.
The data typically helps state and local officials track unemployment rates and identify areas of job growth or decline.
“Due to the lapse in funding, Bureau of Labor Statistics data collection, analysis and dissemination activities were suspended as of Oct. 1, 2025,” the statement
