According to communications from Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) officials to local health offices, new funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) may continue to sustain funding for the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) temporarily as the federal government shutdown extends into its third week.

The news of additional funding comes only days after CareArc announced that the Lyon County WIC Office would close its doors temporarily due to a lack of federal funding. Although the office has been closed since Oct. 13, local participants have continued to receive benefits throughout that time.
