CHICAGO — President Donald Trump asked the U.S. Supreme Court on Friday to allow the mobilization of National Guard troops to Chicago, further escalating a legal battle over the president’s desire to militarize his ongoing immigration enforcement surge in the area.

The request, filed by Solicitor General D. John Sauer, came a day after a three-judge panel on the Seventh Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals refused to halt U.S. District Judge April Perry’s original temporary restraining order barring use of troops to protect immigration agents and facilities around the Chicago area.
