ALTOONA, Pa. (WTAJ) — The Altoona Fire Department hosted a fire safety event called 'Get Fired Up' at the Altoona Public Library to help teach young children and their families important fire safety tips.

The event Friday aimed to establish a personal connection with the community and inform the public about emergency response.

"We want children and the public at large whenever they see us in our emergency vehicles, whenever they see us in our uniforms, to know that we're there to help no matter what, that we're easily approachable," Kevin Kuhn of the Altoona Fire Department said.

The fire safety event included a firetruck for children to explore, providing a hands-on experience.
