MCADENVILLE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) – The N.C. Department of Transportation is planning lane closures along Interstate 85 related to the future widening in Gaston County.

The work is set to begin Sunday and take a few weeks to complete. NCDOT officials say the closures are necessary so engineers can begin a geotechnical investigation necessary as part of the future I-85 widening project between Exits 27 and 17.

The information collected will be used to help design a wider bridge on I-85 over the South Fork Catawba River at mile marker 24. Starting Sunday night, the right lane of I-85 North near the bridge will close from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., continuing through Thursday morning, depending on the contractor’s progress.
