With cold nights and bright sunny days, this weekend is set to begin with a pleasant display of fall weather before wetter conditions sweep in as next week arrives, meteorologists said.

A calm and clear Friday night will see temperatures drop into as low as the 30s. Thermometers could dip below freezing in the coldest areas of Northern and Central Massachusetts, while slightly warmer temperatures are expected in urban areas and on the Cape and Islands, forecasters with the National Weather Service said.

Temperatures on Saturday will rise to the mid- to upper-60s, with clear skies giving way to some clouds later in the day, the weather service’s regional office in Norton said.

Saturday night is expected to be slightly warmer than Friday, with lows in the 40s in most areas and upper 30s
