VINTON, Va. (WDBJ) - Dozens of people lined the sidewalks outside of New York Pizza Friday, October 17 holding signs and chanting for justice for a dog who had to be put down due to severe neglect.
Some of the signs read ‘he deserved love’, ‘no excuse for animal abuse’, and ‘justice for Max’.
Max’s owner, Antonia Montouri is the mother of the operator of New York Pizza. She was charged with misdemeanor animal cruelty on Thursday.
Mary Barnett has worked with animals her whole life. She says it’s one of the worst cases she’s ever seen.
“The treatment of that animal is absolutely indescribable. I cannot even imagine the pain that that dog was in as maggots ate their self through his brain.”
