PERHAM -- The Maine Warden Service and Maine Operation Game Thief are partnering on a $3000 reward that leads to the arrest and conviction of whoever is responsible for the illegal killing of a Canadian lynx in Northern Maine.

This is a picture of the Canadian lynx that authorities say was found dead on Wednesday along Mouse Island Road in Perham, Maine.

The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife says evidence collected at the scene and during their investigation indicates the animal was shot and killed within roughly 24 hours of its discovery.

The Canadian lynx is a federally protected species, and it is a federal offense to harass, trap, hunt, or kill them.
