A person was pronounced dead after being hit by a train in Petaluma Friday, the city’s police department said.
Officers said they received an emergency call from the SMART Train Dispatch Center regarding a train that had struck a pedestrian. The area was being described as being near the railroad trestle bridge which traverses over a tributary of the Petaluma River, according to authorities.
When police and the fire department arrived to the scene they found the pedestrian on the north side of the train tracks while the train which had struck the pedestrian was located 200 yards west of the railroad trestle bridge, officials report.
Authorities said despite life-saving measures being provided to the pedestrian, he ended up succumbing to his injuries at the scene.
