A driver in East Brookfield was flown to a hospital with serious injuries after being trapped in a car that slammed into a tree and caught fire Friday night, officials reported.
The incident happened at around 9:33 p.m. when East Brookfield Fire and EMS were sent to the area of 184 West Sturbridge Road for reports of the crash, the department wrote in a post on Facebook .
Officials managed to put out flames in the engine compartment using extinguishers, the department wrote.
Brookfield Fire Department was requested “for additional manpower and tools” to rescue the unconscious driver. After 45 minutes, the driver was pulled out of the wreckage and flown to UMass Memorial Health with serious but non-life threatening injuries, the post reads.
