Former state Delegate Don Perdue has died at age 75, the state Democratic Party announced.

Perdue, a Democrat from Wayne County, served in the House from 1999 to 2016 and was chairman of the House Health Committee.

He was a pharmacist and retired executive director of the Wayne County Economic Development Authority. He was a Marshall University graduate.

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of former Delegate Don Perdue, a man whose life and career were defined by integrity, compassion, and a steadfast commitment to the people of West Virginia,” said Mike Pushkin, chairman of the state Democratic Party.

Pushkin, a current member of the House of Delegates, made reference to Perdue’s final floor speech when he retired from the Legislature in 2016.
