VINCENNES, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Many animal shelters around the state held an adoption event Saturday, to showcase shelter pets.

Governor Mike Braun made a proclamation to highlight the need to build no-kill communities. In support, the Vincennes Animal Shelter partnered with Best Friend Animal Society to lower adoption fees to 25 dollars.

The goal is to turn the state of Indiana into a no-kill state across all shelters. To be a no-kill shelter, it must have an animal save rate of 90% for all that enter that shelter.

Vincennes Animal Shelter is a no-kill shelter, and they said it's important to spay and neuter animals to decrease the chance of animals going to shelters. They also said there are already so many pets who are waiting for their forever home.
