Longtime Detroit Red Wings analyst Mickey Redmond decided to give the “smelling salts” a shot while calling last night’s game against the Tampa Bay Lightning from ice level.

Professional athletes frequently hit smelling salts to get a boost of adrenaline before and during games. Just on Thursday night, Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers was spotted using smelling salts before throwing a go-ahead touchdown to Pat Freiermuth against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Mickey Redmond and longtime colleague Ken Daniels were on the call for the Red Wings-Lightning game at Little Caesars Arena. During a break, the Red Wings trainer offered Redmond (calling the game between the samples) a sample of smelling salts.
