WASHOE COUNTY, Nev. (KOLO) - The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office is alerting the public about an email scam targeting property owners and development applicants in unincorporated Washoe County.
The scam email is signed by Alexis Hill, chairman of the Washoe County Planning Commission.
Scammers pose as Washoe County and the Washoe County Planning Commission officials, and then tries to trick people into sending money.
The email claims an application approval fee needs to be paid for in-process development applications to receive final approval.
The email has detailed project information, payment instructions, and a request to submit proof of payment.
“This email is a scam,” according to a Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Facebook post.
