As immigrant arrests, deportations, citizen protests, troop deployments, and continued divisive rhetoric from the current administration dominate the news lately, a recent opinion piece in the Wall Street Journal provides an enlightening perspective. In my opinion, it’s one worth paying attention to.

In “Immigrants and American Nobel Prizes,” the Journal opined, “Welcoming immigrants to the U.S. is out of fashion on the political right these days, even for those who enter the U.S. legally. That’s short sighted for America’s future prosperity, as this week’s news about the annual Nobel Prize winners in the sciences shows again.” Two-thirds of this year’s winners were U.S. residents and one half of those were immigrants.
