A man was fatally shot Saturday night in Southeast Washington in the third homicide in the city in seven days. The rate of killings in the city has been sharply reduced since President Donald Trump’s surge of law enforcement resources, but homicides have continued.

As of Friday morning, police records indicate that there have been about 115 homicides here this year, about 25 percent fewer than last year at this time. About 15 homicides have been reported since the surge began in early August, one of the lowest rates in many years.
