Fears that a body had been found in a Devon village this weekend have proved unfounded following a police investigation.

There was alarm after police were called to the Awliscombe area, near Honiton this weekend, with rumours a human body had been discovered.

But it has since been established that the remains were not those of a human.

Devon and Cornwall police were called to the scene at 11.20am on Saturday, October 18.

A cordon and road closures were in the area as an investigation was launched into the findings.

Police issued an update today (October 19) stating: "We were called to reports of a body being found in a rural location near Awliscombe.

"Further enquiries have identified the remains were not human.
