When Stanley Clark Meston designed the revered golden arches for the McDonald brothers in 1952, the landmark features would go on to represent one of the world's biggest fast-food chains. The arches are meant to make an impact and establish dominance in an area but at the Caxton Gibbet Park Service Area, one unusual structure draws the attention away from the golden yellow icons.

As you approach the area's facilities, just off the A428/A1198 roundabout, you'll encounter something unusual that might prompt you to ponder more than just whether you've got enough petrol to complete your journey. To your left, you'll see an intriguing wooden structure with a dark historical backstory.
