Marking World Osteoporosis Day 2025, the Ministry of Ayush has highlighted the importance of preventive healthcare and lifestyle-based solutions to address osteoporosis, a growing public health concern that often goes undetected until a fracture occurs.
Described as a “silent disease,” osteoporosis leads to the gradual weakening of bones, increasing the risk of fractures, particularly in the hip, spine, and wrist. While contemporary medicine attributes the condition to hormonal changes and bone demineralisation with age, Ayurveda links it to the vitiation of Vata dosha, which results in reduced bone density and strength.
