The Western Mustangs have rarely been blown out in their 96-year football history. They almost never get embarrassed at home – but they were soundly thumped in a humbling 60-13 defeat to the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks Saturday at Western Alumni Stadium.

It’s the worst loss in Greg Marshall’s tenure as head coach and came with first place, a national No. 1 ranking and a precious opening-round playoff bye on the line. Now, the reeling Mustangs (7-1) will face the dangerous Guelph Gryphons (3-5) in an Ontario university conference quarterfinal with their season on the line next weekend.
