Prince Andrew was "reluctant" to give up his Royal title and become a "commoner", according to a Royal author. Buckingham Palace issued a statement on Friday evening, in which the 65-year-old announced that he will no longer use his "title or the honours which have been conferred upon me". ‌

He revealed that after close discussions with King Charles , where Prince William is also believed to have played a significant role, he has decided to "put my duty to my family and country first." ‌

The Duke of York also referred back to 2019 when he was forced to "step back from public life" following his disastrous interview with Emily Maitlis for BBC Newsnight. Prince Andrew has consistently denied the allegations against him. ‌
