Several Skagit County residents expressed concern about proposed agritourism code changes Tuesday during the County Planning Commission’s public hearing.

The debate is focused on whether the county can balance farmland preservation with farm-based tourism.

Many more also submitted written comments to the commission.

The commission is no longer taking public comments on the topic as it plans to begin deliberations.

The amendments to the agritourism code will dictate how owners of agriculturally zoned land can utilize their property for tourism-related activities.

The primary concern comes from owners of agritourism-based businesses in the county, some of whom say the proposed code puts their business at risk.
