No matter how you measure it, New Hampshire tolls are absurdly cheap and it shouldn’t be controversial to say after more than 18 years a rate increase is clearly overdue.

For example, because of inflation the 70-cent toll for EZ Pass users on the F.E. Everett Turnpike in Bedford is about 45 cents in 2007 dollars. Not only have the prices of materials and labor for construction skyrocketed since 2007, but the New Hampshire Department of Transportation had to delay several upcoming projects due to a $400 million shortfall.

Officials have floated raising tolls by $1 at each of the five toll plazas in the Granite State.
