WINCHESTER — A 3-year-old girl was killed Saturday in downtown Winchester while crossing West Boscawen Street where it intersects with the Loudoun Street walking mall, according to a Winchester Police Department news release.

The girl was with her family when she was struck by a vehicle at the intersection at approximately 3:07 p.m.

City police are investigating the incident, which occurred hours before a trunk-or-treat event downtown.

"Our hearts are with the family during this unimaginable loss. We recognize how difficult this incident is for everyone involved. The investigation is still ongoing, and we ask for the public's patience in this process," Kayla Foreman, the department's community relations and media specialist, said in an email.
