Strasburg Town Council members have approved a backup plan to keep a long-stalled sewer project alive and preserve more than $627,000 in federal funding, opting to re-line a critical section of pipe on Queen Street rather than replace it outright.
The decision, taken last week during the council's regular meeting, allows town staff to pursue a USDA Rural Development grant extension while continuing to negotiate property easements that have delayed the project since 2019. Officials said the change in scope ensures work can proceed even if negotiations fall through.
Town Manager Waverly Coggsdale said the alternative will strengthen the existing line without trenching through residential yards or crossing Town Run, a stream that has complicated the original design.
