BELL COUNTY, Texas (KWTX) - A Bell County Sheriff’s Office lieutenant has been arrested and placed on suspension following an early morning incident in Temple.

According to Sheriff Bill Cooke, Christopher Roberto Ellis was arrested and booked into the Bell County Jail by the Temple Police Department on a charge of assault causing bodily injury to a family member.

Officials say additional charges may be reviewed by the Bell County District Attorney’s Office.

Sheriff Cooke said Ellis has been suspended while the Sheriff’s Office gathers more details about the incident.

Ellis has worked for Bell County since 2013 and most recently served as Lieutenant of the Mental Health Unit, according to the release.
