ST. CLOUD — The first 24 students have been on the ground at the new CentraCare Regional Campus St. Cloud, a partnership with the University of Minnesota Medical School, since August. That’s barely enough time to leave fingerprints on the etched glass walls, break in the furniture, or make a mess in the dining commons of the former Administrative Support building just southwest of CentraCare Plaza.

While it hasn’t been long since the hoopla of the first open house there faded away, the overarching medical school is at what could be a critical crossroads. A 30-year contract with Fairview Health Services concludes late in 2026, and it remains unclear what health system the University will partner with going forward. Does that matter to St. Cloud?
