PORTSMOUTH — Waving signs that read “We have a Constitution, not a king” and “Democracy needs your courage,” several hundred people gathered Saturday morning at the corner of East Main Road and Turnpike Avenue to take part in a nationwide “No Kings” rally protesting policies from the administration of President Donald Trump.

Several protesters held versions of this sign at Saturday’s rally. Jim McGaw The local rally, held from 10 to 11 a.m. in front of Clements’ Marketplace, drew between 500 and 600 people — considerably more than the “ Hands Off, Portsmouth” demonstration held at the same spot in April. Both events were organized by local activist and retired teacher Carol Anderheggen.
