ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Albuquerque city councilors are set to vote on multiple measures in Monday night's city council meeting. Some aimed at making the streets of Albuquerque safer.
In an effort to bolster crosswalk yielding enforcement to better protect bicyclists and pedestrians, City Councilor Tammy Fiebelkorn is proposing updates to what she considers outdated codes. "Right now, the codes don't actually say you have to stop for all vulnerable road users. In a lot of places, it just says, 'Stop for pedestrians,'" said Fiebelkorn.
Nineteen-year-old Kayla Vandlandingham was riding her bike home in late July when she was hit and killed by a car as she rode through a crosswalk on Carlisle and Delamar. This and other deaths have pushed the city council to look at updating the traffic
