Residents evacuated as wildfire burns in North Frontenac

PLEVNA — Residents in the Ompah area in North Frontenac were evacuated Sunday evening as firefighters battled a wildfire in the area. Article content

The fire between South Lavant Road and Snow Road prompted the closure of Road 509 shortly before 6 p.m. from north of Mississippi Station to south of Ompah. Article content

An hour later, Frontenac OPP reported that the fire was pushing north and east due to windy conditions.

“Residents in that area are evacuating,” the OPP posted on social media.

At 10:15 p.m. North Frontenac Township posted on its website that its Emergency Control Group was monitoring the situation and the OPP would be going door-to-door if further evacuations are needed.
