PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- As hopeful signs emerge about the end of the war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, a Portland synagogue held a gathering to mark the release of the hostages.
Congregation Neveh Shalom organized a "powerful night of music and verse, commemorating the poignant end of the Swords of Iron War," the group Jewish PDX posted on their Facebook page. It was a non-political event and registration was required to attend.
Organizers suggested "bags, backpacks, briefcases and purses" should be left in the car or at home, and that all hand-carried items into the synagogue would be inspected.
Speakers emphasized the need for continued peace and to support everyone affected in the conflict.
