PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- Three people were hospitalized after officials said two cars crashed down an embankment, trapping them inside early Sunday afternoon.

Just before 12:30 p.m., Portland Fire & Rescue crews responded to the area of Northwest St. Helens Road and Harborton Drive on reports of a crash.

Officials said they found the two vehicles had fallen down "an embankment with difficult access" and a total of three people were trapped.

First arriving crews freed the victims within 15 minutes. Nearby railroads also temporarily closed to traffic while the rescue was in progress.

Other arriving firefighters then worked to give immediate medical care before AMR arrived.

All three victims were taken to the hospital "with a range of injuries, thankfully none critical," officials said.
