ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. —

The Gateway Center in Albuquerque is adding more than 100 beds to help homeless men and women, enhancing its capacity to provide shelter and support.

Gilbert Ramirez, the city's health, housing, and homeless director, announced the addition of 142 beds at the center. The women's navigation center, which started two years ago with 50 beds, now offers 100 beds.

"Our goal was to be able to say, if you're not quite ready for navigational services, but you do need to take shelter to stay alive. We'll have the beds available," said Ramirez.

Officials also introduced a navigation center for men, providing 92 beds.
