A devastating fire in a chawl at Cuffe Parade, south Mumbai, resulted in the death of a 15-year-old boy and injuries to three others early on Monday. The incident occurred around 4:15 am at a single-storey chawl located in Shivshakti Nagar on Captain Prakash Pethe Marg.
The fire left four individuals with burn injuries, who were promptly taken to St George’s Hospital. Unfortunately, Yash Vitthal Khot was declared dead upon arrival. The other injured individuals have been identified as Devendra Choudhary (30), Viraj Khot (13), and Sangram Kurne (25). Choudhary is currently in the ICU, while the conditions of the other two are reported to be stable.
Officials stated that the fire was confined to an area of approximately 10x10 feet, affecting electric wiring, installations, three electric vehicle batteries, and household items on the first floor of the chawl. Firefighters arrived quickly, and the blaze was extinguished by 4:35 am. An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire.
